SORT ("we," "our," "the app") is a livestock judging app used at county fairs, state fairs, and 4-H/FFA shows. This page explains what information we collect through the SORT mobile app, the register-show website, and the admin panel, why we collect it, and how you can control it.
| Category | What it includes | Why we collect it |
|---|---|---|
| Account info | Full name, email address, password (stored as a one-way hash — we never see or store your actual password) | To create and secure your account, and to identify you in check-ins and judging results |
| Location (GPS) | Your device's coordinates at the moment you check in to a show or submit judging picks | To verify you're actually at the show venue before allowing check-in or judging, and to block impossible location jumps between actions |
| Contacts | Read from your device only when you open the "Invite Friends" feature; only the specific contacts you choose to invite are ever sent to our server | To let you invite people you know to join you at a show. Invite texts are sent through your phone's own messaging app — we don't send messages on your behalf, and we never upload your full contact list |
| Judging & show activity | Your Top 5 picks, animal entries, team memberships, and check-in history | This is the core functionality of the app — comparing your picks to official results and the SORT community |
| Push notification token | A device identifier provided by Expo/Apple/Google for delivering notifications | To notify you when official results are posted for a class you judged |
| Login security data | IP address, device/browser type, and timestamp of login attempts | To detect suspicious activity and protect your account |
| Show registration info | If you register a show: show name, address, date, banner image, and official judge names | To list and manage shows you organize — this information is shown publicly to attendees of that show |
✓ We never sell your personal information to anyone.
✓ We never track your location outside of check-in and judging moments — there is no background or continuous location tracking.
✓ We never upload your device's full contact list — only the contacts you actively choose to invite.
✓ We never store your password in plain text — only a one-way cryptographic hash.
We don't share your personal information with third parties for advertising or marketing purposes. Judging picks and official results are visible to the SORT community as part of how the app works — that's the nature of a shared leaderboard. Show organizer information (name, address, judges) is public by design, since it's meant to help attendees find and check in to shows.
We use standard infrastructure providers (hosting and push notification delivery through Expo/Apple/Google) to operate the app. These providers process data only as needed to deliver the service and don't use it for their own purposes.
We keep your account and activity data for as long as your account is active. You can delete your account at any time from within the app (Profile → Delete Account), which permanently removes your account and associated personal data from our systems.
SORT is intended for use by show attendees, exhibitors, and judges at livestock events, which commonly include 4-H and FFA youth participants working alongside a parent, guardian, or show official. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13 without appropriate parental or guardian involvement in the show's registration process. If you believe a child has provided us information inappropriately, contact us and we'll remove it.
If we make material changes to this policy, we'll update the "Last updated" date above. Continued use of SORT after changes are posted means you accept the updated policy.
